Mindful Movement

Mindful Movement is:

a form that incorporates the best of YOGA, QI GONG and FREE DANCE harnessing the wisdom of the 5 elements around us and which we are composed of.

When we move consciously in YOGA asana practice we work to feel the subtle energy moving through our bodies. We use the breath to make the connection between our minds and bodies, we activate our Chakras (energy centres) or elements and bring awareness to how energy is moving and where we might be encountering resistance manifested as tension or discomfort.

QI GONG works to help us to move that energy, to free blocks and move the energy to where we need it. The effect of this is to alleviate any tension or discomfort or even pain and redistribute the energy so there is a balanced flow in our bodies.

FREE DANCE gives us the opportunity to express the energy and freedom we are sensing. Dancing to music that is selected to engage a particular element around which each class is themed helps us to feel that element and express it freely, without restriction or reservation.

The 5 Elements are Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit. In ancient therapeutic traditions these are what our world is made up of and what we are made up of as well. All living things are a microcosm of the macrocosm. When we are suffering illness or discomfort there is an imbalance in one or more of these elements. Conscious or mindful movement helps us to bring these into balance, in this way Mindful Movement is Medicine bringing us Wellness and more comfort to our being.
